This park features large trees that were central to the economy of the area. There is a covered shelter but call ahead to see if it has been reserved. Ideal for family outings with its children’s play area, barbeque grills, restrooms, and basketball court. Look for the basketball hoop. Camping for those arriving by boat is by reservation only – call (360) 427-9670 x535.

Approach: Pebble beach or the concrete of an older boat ramp. Bring your boat up to the pull-out area next to the site, as there is no beach at high tide.
Location: On the south shore of Hammersly Inlet, 1.5 miles east of Shelton
Hazards: Check tide charts carefully: tidal currents run between 3-6 knots in Hammersley Inlet.

Sanitation: Flush toilets available year-round, 100 feet southwest of the site.
Overflow: To the west, beyond the children's play area

Special Considerations: Year-round caretakers live across the driveway from the toilets. Strict no alcohol policy. Will need to sign a waiver by email.
Natural History: At the end of the 19th century, this area was known as Saeger Landing, named for the family that homesteaded here. In the early 1900's, young people seeking entertainment would row from Shelton to this site for picnics and camping. There were at that time no roads to the property, so the park could only be reached by boat The property was later acquired by a large lumber company, Puget Mill Company. The company donated the property to the County in the 1940's and the local Grange cleared the site to create the park that exists today.

    • Carsonite Stake: Intact and in good condition
    • Bulletin Board: I didn’t see the dedicated WWTA bulletin board at this location but there was a large park bulletin board with some general information for kayakers
    • Kiosk/pay station: N/A
    • Water: Available – Small, freshwater creek (Walker Creek) goes through the park and could be used to filter water if the water is turned off in the park – When I was there, the water fountain and spigot were shut off but I was able to get fresh water from the on-site bathroom facility
    • Cleanliness: The park was pretty clean – I picked up some trash on the beach and all of the small bits of trash in the area surrounding my campsite
    • Noxious Weeds: None apparent
    • Easy to find
      • Large, undeveloped area with trees surrounded by private properties to the East of the Shelton boat launch
      • CMT stake was easy to spot, as well as the basketball hoop
      • Note: The guidebook includes an old boat ramp as a landmark for this site but the boat ramp is no longer present – It appears to have been removed and some pieces are visible near the stream bed
    • While the park was easy to find, it’s not real clear where the designated campsite is – I camped next to the basketball court which worked fine
    • Caretakers live on site – I had a good chat with them (Sorry, didn’t catch their name) and they said camping next to the basketball court was fine – They also indicated the overflow parking area behind the basketball court would work for camping
    • Even though I had made reservations in advance, the caretakers had not been informed – They were fine with me staying though and left the bathroom unlocked that night
    • Lots of families used the park during my stay but I was the only boater present until the next day when I met some day-trippers who came in from Hope Island
