Kopachuck State Park has a new Cascadia Marine Trail site, replacing the original location that was closed due to erosion. Eight volunteers helped establish the new campsite during a mid-week work party June 17th. Thanks to Boy Scout Troop 217, a new kayak rack will be installed at the site. Paddlers will be sure to enjoy the new camping digs on Carr Inlet. Plan your trip today, WWTA members can check out the updated online Cascadia Marine Trail Guidebook for Kopachuck.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is limiting use of the small lock at Chittenden Locks in Seattle. The small lock will continue to be used for emergency and commercial vessels at the discretion of the lockmaster. Kayaks and canoes are not allowed in the large lock. Kayak or canoe traffic through the locks will be seriously impacted until repairs can be made, likely in October 2008.
WWTA is happy to have North Moench and Ella Goodbrod as the 2008 Sound Education & Action Kayaker Team. North and Ella will be happy to talk to you or your group about WWTA and how to "reduce your paddle print" while enjoying the Cascadia Marine Trail. To check out their itinerary (subject to change) and read about their weekends on the water, visit www.wwta.org/lnt/programs.asp
Washington Water Trails Association has set up a memorial fund in memory of treasured WWTA friend, Bill Blair. Tax-deductible donations in support of WWTA's ongoing public access and water trail work can be made in Bill's honor at www.wwta.org/give/billblair.asp.
September 16-18 at Fort Worden State Park in Port Townsend, WWTA is helping host a conference convening water trail activists and advocates to share knowledge and network across the many organizations and agencies committed to water trails. Participants will choose from an array of presentations, panels, and discussions led by water trail professionals and volunteers from the Pacific to the Atlantic.
