Penrose Point State Park

Enjoy a beautiful paddle rain or shine in Mayo Cove at Penrose Point State Park. This 152-acre park boasts both marine facilities and hiking trails, as well as camp sites, showers, and picnic areas.

Approach: At low tide, sand bar extends north from shore. Aim to land at high tide to avoid long pull out. Head into the cove west of Penrose Point.
Location: West side of Carr Inlet on the south shore of Mayo Cove.

Special Considerations:
Natural History: Look for large stumps with springboard notches in the park; evidence of early logging activity. The day use area, once a swamp, was filled in to create a meadow. Penrose is named after Dr. Stephen Penrose of Tacoma, president of Whitman College in Walla Walla from 1884 to 1934. Dr. Penrose and his family spent their summers vacationing on what is now park property.
