Cascadia Marine Trail National Recognition
H.R.1641, the Cascadia Marine Trail Study Act, amends the National Trails System Act to require the study of the Cascadia Marine Trail in the state of Washington for designation as a national scenic trail. It permits the study of connections to nearby sites of recreational, scenic, or historic significance that are not connected by the Trail. If successful, the study bill will be followed by a bill designating the trail a National Scenic Trail.
This study bill has recently been introduced by Congressman Inslee and co-sponsored by Representatives Adam Smith, James McDermott, Rick Larsen and Norm Dicks. WWTA members interested in supporting the study bill on the Cascadia Marine Trail can send letters of support to the addresses below.
The trail is based on the network set up by Washington Water Trails and the designation would elevate the status of the trail to a National Scenic Trail; helping to protect access and promote ecological stewardship.
The bill is set to get a hearing on May 14 and letters of support would need to be received prior to this hearing. Don Crook, WWTA Board President, is going to Washington DC and will be testifying at the hearing on May 14th.

Dear Representative [Name],
I am writing in support of H.R.1641, the Cascadia Marine Trail Study Act, to amend the National Trails System Act to provide for the consideration of the Cascadia Marine Trail for designation as a National Scenic Trail.
This bill is an important measure to preserve access to a trail of national significance in Puget Sound. The addition of the Cascadia Marine Trail to the National Trails System would help grow the opportunities for access, education, recreation, and interpretation on Puget Sound, the nation’s second largest estuary.
Please support H.R.1641 to study the feasibility of adding the Cascadia Marine Trail in Puget Sound to the National Scenic Trails System.
Respectfully,
[Your Name]
