The Greater Columbia Water Trail Coalition
The mission of the Greater Columbia Water Trail (GCWT) is to enhance recreation and appreciation of the Columbia River watershed's natural and cultural resources by developing water trails that support flatwater paddle sport recreation for day and overnight excursions. The coalition is working closely with the National Park Service and local communities to identify and mark public launch and landing sites and public access areas along the Similkameen, Okanogan, and Columbia Rivers. A National Park Service assistance grant is helping further the effort.
Coalition members include:
Chelan PUD, Douglas PUD, Grant PUD, Okanogan County, Colville Confederated Tribes, Complete the Loop Coalition, various outfitters, WA. Dept. of Fish & Wildlife, WA State Parks and Recreation, Washington Water Trails Association, WADOT, various WA cities, NPS Rivers & Trails Program, Chelan-Douglas Land Trust, Wenatchee Outdoors, NCW Transportation Council, Wenatchee Row & Paddle Club, Wenatchee Valley Museum and citizens of Washington. The Port of Chelan County is leading the effort.
Region-specific groups are key to the development of the many sections of the water trail. Individuals, organizations, agencies and businesses that are eager to partner in these regional efforts are encouraged to get involved.
