Before or After: There's a Cascadia Marine Trail campsite at Fort Worden State Park. Paddle to nearby Cascadia camping at Fort Flagler State Park and Kinney Point on Marrowstone Island. Daytrip on Puget Sound to Old Fort Townsend State Park, Mystery Bay, Admiralty Inlet, or the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Check out possibilities in the North Sound.

Port Townsend has well preserved Victorian architecture and an array of activities. Visit Pygmy Boats and Redfish Custom Wooden Kayak & Canoe Company. Olympic National Park is nearby.

Visit volcanoes or explore international neighborhoods of Seattle, Vancouver or Victoria, B.C.

After: The 25th Anniversary of the West Coast Sea Kayak Symposium (WCSKS) begins Friday, September 19 and runs to mid-afternoon Sunday, September 21, 2008. WCSKS regularly draws 1,500 people to Fort Worden with its 2-mile long beach. The Symposium has on water demos and instruction, boats and accessories, as well as speakers and instructors on all things paddling. After: The National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) offers the five-day Leave No Trace Master Educator Course in Sea Kayaking September 22-26.
