Update on Walker Park. Some of you may know that Walker Park is on the Cascadia Marine Trail, and has been actively used until this summer. As we didn’t have a sign, we used some of our recent grant money to build a sign (thanks to Michael Silence and Max Kismarton ) and spent quite a bit of time installing it since it’s so far away. The first time we went it was snowing so we had to come back. Immediately after installing the sign, according to the county office, one of the commissioners saw it and did not realize there was camping. He then began steps to close to campsite. No one has been able to camp there this summer. The person who has been doing the bookings all these years, say all of our members have always been very polite. We have sent many letters id support. We have received various emails and texts regarding the closing, and many people have been disappointed this summer. The site was brought up at the last meeting and mentioned that the contract had expired in 2008. This is true, however, no one was aware of it until we began doing research on the history. Most of our contracts now are indefinite until one party moves to close. Please read the following article to find out more about this. www.masoncounty.com/story/2026/10/01/news/marine-camping-may-return-to-walker-park/7908.html ...
