Belfair State Park

This state park, named for the town of Belfair a few miles to the east, is the first stop for any person doing a complete tour of the Hood Canal from beginning to end. It has long been a favorite gathering place for people with its freshwater creeks, shellfish beds, and cool shaded woodland facing the water. The Skokomish tribe camped and harvested shellfish here. State Parks has been stewarding the 3,720 feet of park shore for public use since 1952. The CMT site is also the hiker/biker site.

As of 1/1/2019 the Marine Trail campsite at Belfair has been moved into the campground. It is now campsite 148. This is still on the water, but will be closer to facilities. Approach: The Cascadia Marine Trail campsite is to the west of Little Mission Creek.
Location: Northern shore of Hood Canal in the Great Bend
Hazards: Winds and wind-affected waves
Sites: One area, space for 4-5 tents
Water: Closest water is near campsite 145 in main campground
Sanitation: ADA restrooms and showers
Overflow: In main camp area - check with ranger
Fires: Fire ring, check for burn bans
Extras: Shellfish beds, have a permit and know the season and closures
Fees: $12/night for up to 8 in site
Special Considerations:
Natural History: One of Washington State Parks' long-term plan goals is to achieve a net gain in ecological function in streams, nearshore, and estuarine habitats within Puget Sound. At Belfair the removal of fill and rip rap is restoring a historic salt marsh area. The removal of armoring on the lower Big Mission Creek is allowing the creek to return to a more natural course.
