Don Beale on Making and Using Greenland Paddles

January 18 @ 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Don is going to be in Seattle and agreed to give a two hour presentation on the creation and use of Greenland Paddles.

As he says on his website:

Beale Paddles is…

Don and a few friends. He started carving paddles in 1999, just for himself. It took nine paddles to get one he liked. He sold his first paddle in 2002, and Beale Paddles was born. In 2020 paddle #800 was carved. With over 800 individual paddles and over 35 paddle making classes comes the experience and skill that customers appreciate.

Additionally, Don a kayaking instructor, first certifying at ACA Basic Coastal level in 2003. Every year he dedicates some time and funds to professional training. He has certified as an ACA level 5 instructor, and BCU 4-star sea leader trained. He teaches for the Oregon Ocean Paddling Society, SSTIKS (South Sound Traditional Inuit Kayak Symposium), and other Greenland events in the US and abroad. Don and his paddles have featured at events and classes in Japan, Argentina, Canada, and Croatia.

He was invited to survey historic paddles at the Smithsonian Institute and has used that experience, collaborating with Vernon Ducett, to create a paddle he calls The Heritage.

Suggested Donation is $30.00; sliding scale.
